Rip Van Winkle

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

Went to bed last night at 6:30 (fully dressed). Woke up at 6:45 AM this morning (lucky that it wasn’t tomorrow already).
Sitting in that last meeting I was thinking: “I could really use a nap right now.”
I may just head home early and do that.

Holiday Weekend

Monday, November 29th, 2004

Packed the van with only a minimal bickering about which videos to take (I limited the selections to Christmas videos [and only those I can tolerate listening to]).
Limited arguing over who sits where in the van to 10 minutes (approx. 10 seconds every 4 or 5 minutes for the first 200 miles).
Drove through a BLIZZARD [...]

Company Christmas Party

Wednesday, November 24th, 2004

Much debate this year about where to hold our Christmas Party. Yet again, this decision has fallen on my shoulders - believe me, it’s not all fun - but I know that I won’t end up somewhere I don’t want to be.
My top choices right now are:
Doral Club - Miami, Florida
Buca di Beppo - [...]

Unprecedented Accomplishment!

Monday, November 22nd, 2004

I just received the “Employee of the Month” award for October! It took a while for the owner of the business to put this together because it has been so busy - but I totally understand. This award now puts my string of consecutive EE of the months at 18! YEAH!
During the [...]

Successful?

Friday, November 19th, 2004

Well, I got here this morning at 4:30 AM. Opened up my “project managment, client-relationship-management, invoicing, scheduling, answer-book, document-management” system and was greeted with an estimated total time required to accomplish my tasks for the day of: 33.25 hours.
THAT is the result of:
a) being overbooked
b) short-cutting the process of scheduling (ie: as I review [...]

Sabotage

Wednesday, November 17th, 2004

One of my clients has me working with their board of directors and several sub-committees in the review of their administrative functions and design and implementation of new strategy, policies, procedures, and systems. In many ways this is right-up-my-alley.
Except…
A certain individual who has more at stake in much of this than anyone else is [...]

Compassionate?

Friday, November 12th, 2004

Much wailing and gnashing of teeth this past week or two: Liberals bemoaning the strategic mistakes and poor communication of their agenda.
Some celebration as well: Conservatives claiming total mandate to do as they intend.
I will say - many of my candidates faired well. But I am still frustrated by the outcome.

LITTLE victory

Thursday, November 11th, 2004

I’ve been celebrating every day since - so I might as well brag about it: I’ve been parking the van in the garage! Yes, that is where it belongs. Ok, so most people who have garages can manage this. Indeed, I ought to have been doing that all along. Cut [...]

Ivory Coast

Wednesday, November 10th, 2004

I went ice-skating and bowling in that hotel. Abidjan was considered the Paris of Africa. Now it is falling apart. I wouldn’t have believed that a community as modern and diverse and Abidjan could become such a disaster. But REAL PEOPLE (some whom I met) are angry, frightened, and in real [...]

Frankenmuth

Friday, November 5th, 2004

It is going to be a MAJOR bummer if I can’t go this year. I may have to make a special trip and go on my own (but I can’t imagine going without family). Due to some significant dropped communication the Algate clan has created schedule conflicts. OH the TRAGEDY of it [...]
